JOHN DAVID COLES
John Coles has successfully carved a niche for himself as a director of evocative drama. His first feature film was the award-winning Signs Of Life starring Beau Bridges and Vincent D’Onofrio. For television, Mr. Coles has directed many critically-acclaimed films and series including Darrow, starring Kevin Spacey; Rising Son, starring Brian Dennehy and Matt Damon; Sex and the City; Law and Order and the upcoming Fox series Emma Brody. Mr.Coles also co-executive produced and directed the series Wonderland, which explored the frail boundaries of insanity within an urban psychiatric ward. Mr. Coles’ independent production company, Talking Wall Pictures, is dedicated to nurturing writers and has developed screenplays with Doug Wright, Kate Robin, among others. Last year, the company produced Songs in Ordinary Time (based on the Oprah Book Club bestseller by Mary McGarry Morris), starring Sissy Spacek for CBS. Mr. Coles studied acting and directing at HB Studios and with Stella Adler. His Off-Broadway credits include J. Dakota Powell’s play The Impostor starring Austin Pendleton and Calista Flockhart.

MATTHEW PENN
Matthew Penn (Director) was born and raised in New York City. He began his career as an actor and appeared in 8 films and over 30 plays. He began his directing career at Ensemble Studio Theater. Mr. Penn followed that by directing theatrically in numerous venues both Off-Broadway and regionally. Mr. Penn began his television career at Law and Order. He has directed extensively for Law and Order and NYPD Blue. He received an Emmy nomination for directing Julia Roberts in Law and Order’s episode #200. He is a member of Ensemble Studio Theater, the Actors’ Studio and the Director’s Guild of America. Mr. Penn continues to live with his wife and two children on Manhattan’s Upper West side.

JOHN GOULD RUBIN
John Gould Rubin is a member of the LAByrinth Theater Company for which he produced JESUS HOPPED THE ‘A’ TRAIN at the Lab’s home, CenterStage/NY, off-Broadway with Ron Kastner and Roy Gabay, at the Edinburgh Theatre Festival where the show won a Fringe First Award in 2001, and in association with Ron Kastner, Old Vic Productions this coming March at The Donmar Warehouse in London. With LAByrinth he created and directed DREAMING IN TONGUES, and directed the premieres of STOPLESS, by David Deblinger;THE TRAIL OF HER INNER THIGH by Erin Cressida Wilson; and John Patrick Shanley’s new musical, A WINTER PARTY. He is also the director of THE EROTICA PROJECT, which appeared at HERE and The Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival, and which he is producing Off-Broadway. He was also the director of A TASTE OF HONEY at Playwrights’ Horizons lab theater. This spring he will direct the premiere of BLOOD IN THE SINK for the New Chaos Theater. He is also creating a new multi-media project: ‘68’. In 1996, Mr. Rubin wrote (and played Ivan Boesky in): THE PREDATORS' BALL, in collaboration with Karole Armitage and David Salle, which premiered at the Pergola Theatre, in Florence, Italy, and was then the Gala Production for the 1996 Next Wave Festival in the Opera House at BAM.
As an actor, Mr. Rubin appeared in John Patrick Shanley's play, CELLINI, at Second Stage. He performed on Broadway opposite Glenn Close and Gene Hackman in DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, under Mike Nichol's direction; at the Mark Taper Forum in the title role of Moliere's DON JUAN, directed by Travis Preston, for which he received the DramaLogue Award in Acting; and as Jacques in John Tillinger's production of AS YOU LIKE IT, at the Long Wharf Theater. He appeared in Martin Crimp’s adaptation of THE MISANTHROPE, with Uma Thurman and Roger Rees, at the Classic Stage Company, directed by Barry Edelstein, as well as in the lead role of Mr. Crimp’s PLAY WITH REPEATS with Francis McDormand at New York Stage and Film, also under Mr. Edelstein’s direction. Mr. Rubin's Film appearances include "The Out-of-Towners", with Steve Martin, "Three Men and a Baby", "Dead Again", and "The End of the Bar". Television appearances include "New York News", "Good Advice", "Law & Order" and "The Story Behind the Story". He has an M.F.A. from the Yale School of Drama.

JOHN PATRICK SHANLEY
John Patrick Shanley is from the Bronx. PSYCHOPATHIA SEXUALIS
was previously produced at the Seattle Repertory Theatre and
the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and his recent one-acts
MISSING/KISSING were presented at Primary Stages in New York
and in the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville.
Mr. Shanley's comedy FOUR DOGS AND A BONE was produced by
Manhattan Theatre Club, and subsequently enjoyed a commercial
run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. It was also mounted in
Los Angeles as the inaugural production of the Geffen Playhouse.
Other full-length plays include THE BIG FUNK (New York Shakespeare
Festival); BEGGARS IN THE HOUSE OF PLENTY, ITALIAN-AMERICAN
RECONCILIATION and WOMEN OF MANHATTAN (Manhattan Theatre Club);
Savage in Limbo and The Dreamer Examines His Pillow (Powerhouse
Theater and Off-Broadway); DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA (Actors
Theatre of Louisville and Circle in the Square Downtown);
and a wide variety of one act plays, including WELCOME TO
THE MOON (Ensemble Studio Theatre). He was selected for four
consecutive seasons as a participant at the National Playwrights
Conference at the O'Neill Theatre Center. In the arena of
film, Mr. Shanley wrote the screenplay for FIVE CORNERS, which
won a Special Jury Prize (screenplay) at the Barcelona Film
Festival. His script for MOONSTRUCK won both the Writers Guild
Award and an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He
made his debut as a feature film director with his script
JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO. He also wrote the screen adaptations
of both ALIVE and CONGO.
