In the fall of this year, Brave New World Theatre, Inc. will present a Theatre Event on the FIRST anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Fifty new plays, songs, and multimedia pieces by award-winning playwrights, composers and lyricists come together over three evenings and one afternoon matinee. Premier actors and directors will perform.
This benefit event will take place from September 9 to 11, 2002 at the historic 1500-seat Town Hall in New York City.
Our mission is to unite and encourage the American theater to explore the roots of terrorism and address the changes in the world in the aftermath of the attacks. Brave New World will provide a forum for artists to wrestle with these issues, hopefully helping us all to resolve our continuing feelings of helplessness and confusion in the face of this tragedy.
We believe that an artistic response is essential towards understanding not only the repercussions of terrorism on our most intimate relationships, but also the reasons for a type of warfare that is grinding away at the foundations of cultures around the world.
The artists, thinkers and dreamers of the world must be given a chance to respond as a community.
To stand back in silence is to surrender in defeat.
