24 Hour Plays
Called “Instant theater: no fuss or frills, just the plays” by the New York Times, and “the downtown theatrical party/performance of the season” by NYPress, The 24 Hour Plays is an exciting and popular theater festival event where 6 short plays are written, cast, rehearsed, and performed in a single day: 24-hour plays. The creative process begins at 10pm the night before the show, when a group of 6 writers, 6 directors, 24 actors and production staff gather at a theater. After everyone has been briefed (and Polaroided), the writers remain for the night and are to each compose a ten-minute play. Casting is done using the Polaroids before the writers begin. At 7am the next morning, the directors return, read the plays, make bids for their favorites, and are assigned one of the plays. The casts come in at 8am to meet for the first time and quickly get to work; rehearsals start promptly at 9am. Tech rehearsal runs from 5 to 7:30pm - doors open at 7:45. At 8pm, ink barely dry, the new plays are performed for a live audience!

Working Playground
As seen on the Rosie O'Donnell Show, NBC News, CBS This Morning, Working Playground is a not-for-profit cultural organization that brings the arts to children and school communities that are lacking the opportunity and resources to study an art form. Their purpose is to support schools and communities by creating far-reaching arts education programs that help young people to achieve their goals. Founded in 1991, Working Playground uses the arts to inspire, enliven, and enrich public school students’ educational experiences. Their mission is twofold: to provide arts programs that are relevant across curricula, strengthen student performance and that have meaning and value beyond school; and to produce original works of art by emerging young artists. Working Playground’s acting, playwriting, video, dance, set design, visual arts and poetry residencies encourage students to believe in their ability to learn, create and achieve.

The 24 Hour Company
Since their inaugural production in 1995, The 24 Hour Company has produced over 200 short plays, all written, cast, rehearsed and performed in a single day: 24-hour plays. Paper Magazine wrote “the quality of the plays is remarkable,” and the Village Voice adds, “here was the energy missing from the Ludlow scene... theatricality as life, as subversion, even survival.” Founded in 1995, the rotating cast and crew of The 24 Hour Plays have performed over 200 new short plays for sold-out houses at the Atlantic Theater, the Ohio Theater, and other Off and Off-Off Broadway venues in New York, and in Chicago, Los Angeles and London.

Planet Impact
This non-profit was founded in the summer of 1999 for the purpose of creating innovative volunteer opportunities for busy people. The founders were friends who met at Wharton Business School and shared a belief that the majority of people in our generation value community service, but lead very hectic lives. People generally do not have the time to: (a) find a worthy cause, and (b) find ways to contribute to that worthy cause that will fit their schedule. The goal of Planet Impact is to eliminate these obstacles to people contributing to the community. This benefit is a part of Planet Impact’s Artistic INCITE program, an effort to apply the mission of Planet Impact to the arts and entertainment industries. If you would like help in creating a volunteer opportunity to fit your schedule, or would just like more information, visit www.planetimpact.org.

Details Magazine and Bloomingdales
These two long established corporations have generously provided the funding to make this event possible. They will also both be supporting our efforts by approaching additional sponsors that may help us to defer production costs, thereby allowing for a greater donation to be made to Working Playground.
